This gives us a greater confidence in our message and a greater hope for our future. 3:1-6. The Lord wants us to experience the supremacy of Christ in our lives. He wants that be our lives. We do that by apprehending the significance of the incarnation and by understanding the requirements that were fulfilled through it. A greater incarnation means a greater subjection. 2:6-9 A greater incarnation means a greater identification. 2:10-13 A greater incarnation means a greater propitiation. 2:14-18

We need to resolve to stay on course with what we have heard, or we will drift away and be lost at sea. 2:1 We need to reclaim responsibility for the salvation that has been gifted to us, or we will pay the price of neglecting it. 2:2-3 We need to react to the fact that God is still speaking concerning the Lordship of Jesus in our lives today and in the Kingdom to come, or we will not be a part of Him or it. 2:4-5

Jesus is greater than anything that came before Him. Not because what came before was a failure on God's part, but because Jesus was the fulfillment of all that came before Him. That was the point of the first three verses that we looked at last week. This week we are going to get an overview of the writer's first argument concerning what Jesus is greater than, as well as the first warning about what to look out for as well as what to do about it.

Is this your Jesus? What do you look to for validation, fulfillment, integrity, righteousness, satisfaction, identity? If it's anything other than Jesus you are missing the point. Jesus is greater than.

We can trust this book/collection. We can trust it on a natural level and a supernatural. We can trust it with the past, the present, and the future. Belief (or not) in a thing doesn't effect its truthfulness. It only effects your relationship to it. Jesus is the truth. jesus is the central theme to the whole of the Bible; God's answer to our sin problem. Have you addressed that problem? Where do you stand?

When you have an encounter with God and His word you will go from pride to pray, from reviling to revival, from justice to just-save-them, from ourselves to Jesus. When you're having a hard time with what God is doing or is not doing or is about to do always remember what God has done. Like Jesus. When we think God is being harsh we have to remember the ugliness of sin and its cost which is Jesus. When we experience trials the source of our joy is defined and refined. The Creator, the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, of Moses, of David, of Elijah and Elisha, of Ezekiel, Daniel, Habakkuk, Peter and Paul, He is your strength. If...

The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38. Will God use "the enemy" to correct you? Absolutely. Bummer. The Chaldeans are a judgment.
