Macquarie shocks investors with fragile outlook
6 hours agoThe investment bank Macquarie Group has foreshadowed weak profits from some of its businesses, blaming uncertain market conditions. It says three divisions including the key Macquarie Capital business are likely to post lower earnings this financial year than the last if the market conditions experienced in the June quarter don't improve.
Labor still haunted by ghost of Rudd

Ms Gillard has been asked whether Kevin Rudd will campaign beyond his seat and visit other areas of Queensland. And a former Labor leader has directly accused Mr Rudd of deliberately leaking Cabinet information.
Coalition trumps Government on disability funding
5 hours agoThe Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has been campaigning today in the South Australian marginal seat of Sturt where he's announced funding to students with disabilities. Mr Abbott says the Coalition's policy will trump the Government's $180 million pledge to support disabled children by $134 million.
Anger over Broome evictions
5 hours agoWelfare agencies have accused the West Australian police of being heavy handed in evicting dozens of itinerants from an illegal campsite in Broome. CentaCare says it's had to house and feed people who've been left without possesions, including medications.
White House calls in the FBI over WikiLeaks
5 hours agoThe White House has called on the FBI to help the investigation into the leak of more than 90,000 classified documents relating to the Afghan war. The US defence secretary says the leaks could expose intelligence sources and operational methods which could risk lives. The top US military commander says the head of WikiLeaks could already have 'blood on his hands'.
Gulf States worry they'll be forgotten by BP

Small businesses say they're struggling to stay open as visitors stay away. BP has tried to reassure them, saying it will maintain a presence in the region for years to come to help anyone in need.

5 hours agoCampaigning in Perth the Prime Minister Julia Gillard has unveiled the Federal Government's blueprint for a national broadband network. Ms Gillard says under the plan the Government will extend broadband coverage from 90 per cent to 93 per cent of the country.

The Coalition says it will scrap Labor's national broadband network if it wins the election but the network is already being rolled out in three areas of Tasmania.
